ESCAP: Tsunamis, earthquakes, unprecedented flooding, heatwaves, cyclones, drought and sand and dust storms. Almost half of the 281 natural disaster events worldwide last year occurred in the Asia-Pacific region, including eight of the ten deadliest. The defining issue of our times – climate change – has further resulted in the intensification and changing geography of disasters, hitting the most vulnerable populations the hardest.
