International Conference on Disaster Risk Management ICDRM 2019
01/12/2019 - 01/14/2019
Disaster risk management is now considered as a globally important topic and global efforts are being made to mitigate disasters through integration of different stakeholders. Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015-2030) adopted seven global targets and four priorities for substantial reduction of disaster risk. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (2016-2030) addressed disaster risk reduction under its Goal 11. Global target 11.5 of SDG is directly linked to disaster risk reduction and protection of vulnerable people. Existing and rapidly growing densely populated urban areas of most developing countries are not facilitated with adequate safety measures. Major disasters like Cyclone Sidr (2007), Haiti Earthquake (2010), Japan Earthquake and Tsunami (2011), Rana Plaza Collapse (2013), Nepal Earthquake (2015), and the recent climate change related events indicate increased global vulnerability to disasters.
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), the oldest institution for the study of Engineering, Architecture and Planning in Bangladesh, has sixteen departments and six institutes.
