Conference on Geo-Information for Disaster Management

09/03/2019 - 09/06/2019

Geo-information for Disaster management (Gi4DM) is an annual conference devoted to the use and application of geo-information technology in disaster management. The fundamental goal of the conference is to provide a forum where disaster managers, stakeholders, researchers, data providers and system developers can discuss challenges, share experience, discuss new ideas, demonstrate technology and analyse future research toward better support of risk and disaster management activities.

Eleven editions of these conferences have taken place in Delft, The Netherlands, (March 2005), Goa, India, (September 2006), Toronto, Canada, (May 2007), Harbin, China (August, 2008), Prague, Czech Republic (January 2009), Turin, Italy (February 2010), Antalya, Turkey (May, 2011) Enschede, the Netherlands (December, 2012) and Hanoi, Vietnam (December 2013), Montpellier, France (September, 2015), Istanbul, Turkey (March 2018). The 12th conference will be organized in Prague, Czech Republic (September, 20International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing19).

Gi4DM has been organized in cooperation with different international bodies such as ISPRS, UNOOSA, ICA, ISCRAM FIG, IAG  OGC, WFP and supported by national organisations such as GIN (Netherlands) and CIG (Canada). Gi4DM has been organized by different organizations. For the period 2016-2020, Gi4DM is coordinated by the ISPRS ICWG III/IVa Disaster Assessment, Monitoring and Management.

The purpose of this web site is to preserve as much as possible the impressions of all symposia, the innovative ideas, papers, presentations, publications and workshop and thereby strengthen the links between Geo-specialists and Disaster managers.

The world has experienced several devastating disasters in this century, first an Earthquake of a very high magnitude and then Tsunami afterwards or heavy rain flows, followed by floods and landslides are common occurrences. These are conditions where even the most advanced EWS cannot make a significant difference. So, most of the potential to mitigate such a disaster in the future would have to be in the field of vulnerability reduction by adaptation, e.g. in urban planning and construction, based on risk and vulnerability maps.

Another question is the quality and coordination of disaster mapping activities to support response measures. Here we should coordinate all efforts globally as most of the disasters nowadays affect Trans boundaries. So the Geoinformation technologies will and better expressed should help in all facets of Disaster Management. An international effort in this direction is the Gi4DM series of Conferences, which was held for the first time in 2005 in Delft after the Indian Ocean Tsunami and repeated every year in almost all parts of the world. The upcoming conference in next September 2019 will demonstrate the last international advances in Geoinformation regarding the Disaster Management.

We are pleased to invite you to submit an abstract and in case of acceptance your paper to this conference. All accepted papers will be published in ISPRS Archives. The ISPRS Archives are listed in the ISI Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI) of the Web of Science, SCOPUS, and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).

We invite all scientists, practitioners and decision makers to join the conference by sharing their experiences by presenting papers and participating to the discussions afterwards.
